Epsom and Ewell's Young Legends programme reopened for bookings on 17 September. Ten free activities, two per child, running 3 November to 13 December.

Bookings opened on Wednesday for a free autumn activities programme for children aged 9 to 11 who live in Epsom and Ewell.

Places are first come, first served. There are ten activities and each child can pick up to two.

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council announced the second Young Legends programme on 17 September. Sessions run from early November to mid-December, and the council’s programme page carries the booking form and the full timetable.

There is no published closing date. The council says only that places are allocated in the order applications arrive.

Young Legends 2026 weekly timetable: ten free activities across six days

Most activities run for six weekly sessions. The two Monday ones, arts and crafts and musical theatre, run for five.

Coding is the only activity offered twice. Code Ninjas runs it on Thursdays and again on Fridays, both at Church House, which gives two chances at the same session if one day does not work.

The sessions are delivered by named local providers rather than by the council itself: Westcroft Judo Nork, Cagers Basketball Club, Kate McBarron, Sutton and Epsom RFC, YOUfF (Young Ones United Football Foundation), Code Ninjas, Include, Callum Macarty Tennis, Creative Minds and Laine Theatre Arts.

Three things the announcement does not spell out

The rugby venue is not in Epsom town. Sutton and Epsom RFC plays at Cuddington Court, Rugby Lane, Cheam SM2 7NF. Despite the Cheam and Sutton postal address, that ground sits inside Epsom and Ewell borough, in Nonsuch ward. It is about two miles east of Epsom town centre, so it is a drive or a bus ride from most of the borough rather than a walk.

The start date is not 2 November. The council’s programme page says the programme runs “from 2 November”, but 2 November is a Monday and the Monday activities do not begin until 9 November. The earliest session on the published timetable is Tuesday 3 November.

There is a graduation event. The council says everyone who takes part will be invited to a celebration at Bourne Hall on Monday 14 December, and that its Community Development team will contact families about it. That is not mentioned in the press release, only on the programme page.

Who can apply

The council’s conditions are short:

  • the child must be aged 9 to 11
  • the child must live in Epsom and Ewell borough
  • up to two activities per child
  • places go in the order applications are received

There is a dedicated arts and crafts session for children with special educational needs, run by Creative Minds at Epsom Library on Mondays.

Applications go through the form on the council’s Young Legends page. Paper forms can also be completed at Epsom Town Hall during opening hours, and the council gives cdevelopment@epsom-ewell.gov.uk as the contact address for questions.

What it means for you

If your child is in Year 5 or Year 6, this is six weeks of coached activity at no cost, in the term when secondary school transfer is on everyone’s mind. The council says that transition is part of the point of the programme.

The practical advice is to apply early rather than to deliberate. Nothing in the council’s published material caps the number of places per activity or says what happens when one fills, so the only protection against missing out is being early in the queue. Pick a second choice before you open the form, because you are allowed two.

Check the day as well as the activity. Four of the ten run at 5pm or earlier on a weekday, which is tight for a working parent doing the school run, and the basketball session does not start until 7pm.

This is the second year of Young Legends. The council ran it for the first time in 2025 and says it is expanding the range of activities this year.

For more free and low-cost things to do locally, see our things to do in Epsom page. The council ran a separate free football programme for 10 to 16-year-olds over the summer.
